Whether a beginner or a professional, you must know MIG welding, which is extremely popular and the first choice of any welder. It is the easiest to learn and can produce clean, strong welds in various metals. MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas and is also known as gas metal arc welding (GMAW) or co2 welding. MIG welding without gas, also called flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), or simply gasless MIG welding, uses self-shielded MIG wire. Use hollow electrodes or tubes filled with a flux compound that creates a shielding gas to protect the molten weld pool. Therefore, compared to gas MIG welding, it is easier to set up and is highly recommended for fieldwork. 
 
MIG welding, also known as CO2 welding, is suitable for various thickness operations and is commonly used in auto shops, maintenance, and manufacturing processes. MIG welding is generally faster than TIG or MMAW welding. It also has cleaner welds and is better suited to more extended continuous welding. The MIG wire feeds through the MIG gun, which is connected to the MIG welding machine, providing current for the MIG torch. The welder presses the MIG torch button to bring the wire closer to the workpiece and create an arc, and the welding takes place. 
 
MIG or GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding requires a shielding gas to protect the molten weld pool from atmospheric elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Generally, CO2 gas is the shielding gas for mild steel welding, while argon or argon-helium mixtures are used for welding stainless steel and aluminum. The nozzle, contact tip, and gas diffuser are parts of the MIG torch and should be replaced over time if they become clogged.
